Ashuelot Valley Environmental Observatory (AVEO), the citizen science arm of the Harris Center, recently confirmed the presence of a Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor) nest on a rooftop at Keene State College, with the successful hatch and likely fledging of two chicks.  AVEO’s team of Project Nighthawk volunteers have been monitoring nighthawks above the skies of Keene each summer since 2007, in the hopes of documenting successful breeding of this state-endangered species.  The Keene State College nest is one of only three confirmed nighthawk nests statewide in 2012, and the first confirmation of a successful rooftop nighthawk nest in New Hampshire since at least 2007!
