In addition to being environmentally friendly, our building incorporates the following features to provide a healthy and comfortable space for the staff and visitors.
- An energy recovery ventilation system is used where more than 80% of the heat energy in stale exhaust air is transferred to the incoming fresh, outdoor air.
- To minimize Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), we used only water-based stains and clear finishes, as well as formaldehyde – free wheat board for cabinetry.
- We nearly eliminated the use of vinyl products, which, when carelessly disposed of by incineration, has harmful human health consequences. For example, ABS piping (made from thermal plastic resins) was used instead of industry standard PVC.
- All outdoor pressure-treated structural lumber was preserved using EPA approved ACQ, an environmentally advanced formula that is arsenic and chromium free.
