Volunteers Make A Difference!

The Harris Center depends and in fact, could not exist without its many dedicated volunteers. They provide invaluable support and expertise in many areas of the Center’s operation.

In 2005 there were 130 volunteers donating 10,095 hours of their time. This amount of donated time was valued at $136,283.

Here are some of the ways you could volunteer:

General office help

  • Prepare bulk mailings – six times a year
  • Data entry
  • Smaller mailings on a weekly basis

Broad-Winged hawk

Special events

  • Help set up
  • Bake
  • Greet people as they arrive or assist with parking
  • Send out mailings for events

Trail work

  • Clear new trails
  • Mark and maintain existing trails

Landscaping

  • Pruning
  • Planting small vegetable and herb gardens

Help with school programs

  • Copying and book binding
  • Assist teacher/naturalists

Outings leaders

  • Lead a hike
  • Assist a leader with an outing

Land work

  • Post land
  • Monitor easements

Building projects

  • Small carpentry projects
  • Painting
  • Putting screens up in spring and taking down in fall
